New driver distraction road rules will come into effect in across Victoria from 31 March. And new mobile phone and seatbelt cameras will be shortly introduced.
The Department of Transport Planning have launched an education campaign that will inform drivers and motorcyclists of the ins and outs of these new rules.
Their marketing campaign will run until the 17 April and will feature on radio, social media channels, Spotify and SnapChat.
Feel free to download the campaign stakeholder pack with links to shareable creative assets. Any support you can provide by sharing the assets with your networks, would be appreciated. I acknowledge that the content is Victoria based so may not be relevant for all your audience. The pack includes information for cyclists.
The new road rules are being introduced that will extend existing mobile phone road rules to cover modern devices including:
inbuilt systems,
mounted devices,
wearable devices such as smartwatches and
portables devices such as loose phones and tablets.
Consistent with existing rules, the updated rules are applied to drivers, riders of motorcycles, bicycles, electric scooters, and people travelling in or on wheeled recreational devices such as skateboards and rollerblades.
New mobile phone and seat belt cameras are also being introduced.
The updated road rules take effect from 31 March 2023 and are enforceable by Victoria Police.
