Left Hand Drive

LEFT HAND DRIVE VEHICLES

(To be read in conjunction with the Handbook ‘The CLUB PERMIT SCHEME (Victoria)’)

Left Hand Drive vehicles on a rolling 25 year basis may now be issued with a Club Permit.

The vehicles must comply as set out in the Club Permit Scheme Handbook PLUS additional requirements as below:

Only approved clubs that are members of an approved Association (eg. Association of Motoring Clubs) are permitted to authorise applications for club permits for left hand drive vehicles.

Failure to comply with the Rules of the Club Permit Scheme could result in –

  1. Fine for driving an unregistered vehicle, or
  2. Loss of the individual Club Permit, or
  3. Loss of the Club’s authority to operate the Club Permit Scheme, or
  4. Cancellation of the Club Permit Scheme for all enthusiasts.

To obtain a Club Permit for a Left Hand Drive Vehicle.

  • You require:
    - a club permit application form from VicRoads,
    - a vehicle inspection report from your authorised club, OR
    - a current Road Worthy Certificate, and
-a letter from the AOMC stating that your club is a paid up member of the AOMC.
  • The AOMC requires a letter from your authorised club stating:
    - your name and address,
    - the year, make and model of the vehicle,
    - Engine, Chassis and VI Number,
    - that you are a paid up member of the club.
  • Allow plenty of time to process the application – Club and AOMC Officials are volunteers.

Talk to the Club Permit Officer at your club to obtain details of your Club's requirements.

Ask your Club's Permit Officer to obtain the necessary letter from the AOMC while other paperwork is being processed to avoid delays.

Do NOT request this document yourself -- it must be requested by your Club. This letter will be returned to your club to pass on to you.
