The RACV and the AOMC will be conducting the inaugural Cape Schanck Concours on Sunday 25 October 2009 at the RACV Cape Schanck Resort. The event will be a premier occasion with a display of outstanding vehicles worthy of the trophies to be awarded. The event will be limited to approximately 40 vehicles and applications will close 31 August 09. An application form may be downloaded here.

Here are some questions and answers relating to the event.

  Q. Who may enter the concours ?
A. The Concours is open any Australian resident.

Q. Do I have to be a member of the RACV or an AOMC affiliated Car Club to enter?
A. No. You do not have to be a club member of either a car club or the RACV to take part in this event.

Q. Can I enter a number of vehicles?
A. A maximum of 2 vehicles per entrant will be considered for entry. (At a fee of $300 per vehicle). Entrance fee includes: eligibility for judging and awards, meals for 2 (see below), a commemorative badge plus entry in a draw for another valuable prize.

Q. Why is there a limit to the number of vehicles that may be entered?
A. The site has a limited display area and restricted access. The actual final number of vehicles will be determined by the organisers.

Q. If my vehicle is not accepted for entry is my entrance fee refunded?
A. All entrants will be advised of their acceptance. Unsuccessful applicants will have their entrance fee refunded.

Q. What type and year of vehicles may enter the concours?
A. The Concours is open to cars or commercial vehicles made in 1984 or earlier and normally garaged in Australia.

Q. My vehicle model was first built in 1984 but my vehicle is actually 1986, can it still be entered?
A. Run-on model vehicles will be accepted.

Q. My vehicle has been extensively modified mechanically and body, is it still eligible to enter.
A. Original, modified or restored vehicles are all eligible. The principal criterion is the quality of the presentation on the day.

Q. What prizes are to be awarded?
A. The number and type of prize/award will be at the discretion of the judges. Any vehicle awarded a prize will not be eligible for that prize again within 6 years (unless the vehicle undergoes a change in ownership or a major restoration).

Q. What classes are prizes to be awarded?
A. The classes will depend on the range of entries received. It is intended that a large range of awards will be available to ensure that all entrants will be eligible. Conversely, if, for example, there is no Veteran sedan entered then no prize or trophy will be awarded. More details on the classes and prizes will be posted here closer to the event.

Q. Who are the judges and what are the criteria used?
A. The judging panel will comprise respected members of motoring clubs experienced in evaluating concours class vehicles. Given that originality is not a prime criterion in scoring it will be quality of workmanship and presentation on the day. That is, the cleanliness of all parts. The quality of the workmanship in assembly eg. panel fit, paint finish, wiring, trim fitting and upholstery. The list of criteria and scoring will be consistent with typical club concours scoring items (but with less emphasis on originality) and will posted here closer to the event.

Q. What if my vehicle is almost totally original ?
A. There will be some consideration of vehicles that are claimed to be totally original but the objective of the event is to present the epitome of Elegance and fine workmanship rather than a "barn find".

Q. Where exactly will the vehicles be displayed?
A. The vehicles will be displayed on a grassed area adjacent to the the RACV Resort complex.

Q. May I take a trailer etc into the site to unload the display vehicle?
A. No, a requirement is that the display vehicles be able to be operated under their own power and driven onto the site. Temporary parking for trailers and service vehicles to allow unloading will be provided nearby.

Q. Is 240v power available on the site (for lighting)?
A. No. entrants may use only local battery power. 240v AC generators will not be permitted.

Q. May I place a turntable on the site to display my vehcile?
A. No. Turntables, ramps or oher display mounts will not be permitted.

Q. May I place a display board/banner in front of or adjacent to my vehicle?
A. Yes, subject to approval by the organisers. (Viewer safety is the prime issue). It is expected that any display boards will be of a style and presentation that befits the quality of the vehcile.

Q. What refreshments and catering will be available during the event?
A. All concours entrants will be entitled to sit down lunch for 2 people (per vehicle) within the RACV facility at the Cape Schanck resort. Catering will be provided for spectators at the resort by vendors on site.

Q. Where does the Concours entry fee go to?
A. After payment of expenses (awards, trophies, prizes, meals, badges and any outstanding costs associated with the City to Cape Rally) the balance will go to the operation of the AOMC and the support of member clubs. Note that public entrance fees to the venue will go to the local Country Fire Authority.

Q. When will the next Cape Concours be held?
A. If there is sufficient interest, it intended that the Concours event be held every second year in association with the City to Cape Rally.
